It has always seemed strange to me...The things we admire in men, kindness and generosity, openness, honesty, understanding and feeling, are the concomitants of failure in our system. And those traits we detest, sharpness, greed, acquisitiveness, meanness, egotism and self-interest, are the traits of success. And while men admire the quality of the first they love the produce of the second.

My very favorite by Steinbeck!
ReplyDeleteC.
Ah yes, C. It truly is a great book. I am great fan of Steinbeck. But I have yet to read The Grapes of Wrath so I will reserve picking a favorite until then, because I hear it is a gem. Currently my favorite is maybe East of Eden.
ReplyDeleteI want to read a few more Steinbeck books this year. East of Eden, Of Mice and Men and Grapes of Wrath were wonderful.
