The First Annual St. Patrick’s Day Bookpuddle© Book Giveaway Event... Thing

I’m calling it “annual” even though this is only the first one.
But I promise. I’ll do it every year!
It's been quite a while since I have had a book giveaway event and back then I made the criteria very difficult.
This time I want to make it real easy for you to win yourself a totally free book.
All you have to do is leave a comment on this posting and say which one of these three books you would like to have ...and then write a 500-word essay defending your choice.
No, no. Just kidding.
Skip the essay part.
Just name the book.
Then I will write out all the entries on little pieces of paper, scrunch them up to look like Jack’s cat food pellets, and the first one he tries to eat, that will be the winner!
Here are the books!

The Child In Time, by Ian McEwan
People of the Book, by Geraldine Brooks

The Reserve, by Russell Banks

Clicking on the titles will take you to previous postings I have made, about these books.
Oh, and here’s an interesting story.
Initially I took a couple photos of these books in the Chapters store [where I currently am, writing this] and I guess I took one too many shots, because when the last flash went off, a bookseller came up to me and she said that such activity was not allowed.
I said “Really?”
She said, “I’m afraid so.”
I said… “Are you going to call the police?”
“No,” she said, “But I would ask you to delete the pictures you just took.”
I thought she was kidding.
“Are you serious?” I asked her.
The look on her face told me that things would probably get nasty if I made a dash for the door like some kind of lunatic.
So I went through the shots on my SD-card, and she literally watched me delete each one. I kept going until an earlier photo of me appeared, and to my surprise she winced and said, “Ooooh, you should seriously delete that one, too.”
So I did!

I am sitting here laughing. You deleted a picture of yourself because SHE told you that you should?? The funny thing is (to me) that if you’d thought the picture was so bad, you’d have already deleted it! You obey orders well.

God knows I don’t need another book…but if you’re giving them away…
The Child in Time appeals to me. I do like Ian McEwan.

ROFL!! That was so funny. I would have made a run for it. Can you imagine what she might have done then? Lol.

I would like to have The Child In Time.

(Here Kitty, Kitty, I taste good, come on, taste a little corner, come on...)

Hilarious! How sad that you deleted it - I'm sure it would have been entertaining to see! :)

I would like to be entered for People of the Book.

A book give-away!!

I would love to be entered for such a thing, as my pile of books is short (yet distinguished) in this foreign land of non-english speakers (or sellers of english books...)

I will only accept entry to the contest if you promise to try to remember, and re-take, and include, the said terrible photo of yourself.

The Child In Time would be my choice, though at the same time, I would leave it up to you (as one who has read all of the mentioned books) to choose which would be of the most value to a reader such as myself.

Jeech, free book!!! I have dreams about this...
Put me down for The Reserve please.

And by the way, I have a couple photos of you on my fridge which the Chapters Photo Patrol likely would have asked me to remove from there. Unlike you, I would not obey. Your homie likes them, the boys idolise you for them and even the crotch sniffers (as you call them) approve as you seem to offer plenty to sniff...
Ha! Now everyone will wonder!!!

Throw my name in the hat for the McEwan book, Cip. I really like the guy's writing but somehow never pick up anything new by him. Thanks.

Hey, Cip! Is The Child in Time really that good??! Coincidentally I just yesterday started reading my 2nd McEwan book ever (Enduring Love) and not only is it thus far amazing, but I'm now determined to read everything he's written.

Consider me not entered, cuz I don't really need another book, but I want to hear more of your thoughts on McEwan (really popular pick, it seems).

Is it too late to enter? If not...'People of the Book' is my choice!

I've already read 'Child in Time' (whoo-boy...that's a tough read...beautifully written as always, but the subject matter was hard to take a times). Russel Banks...meh.

Hugs and kisses at ya!

C. tells me that I would like People of the Book. I trust her judgement... for now. I'd appreciate having my name fed to your cat, if you please.

If it's not too late, I'll select The Reserve.

What a funny post, I dunno what I would've done if that would have happened to me.

I will, I mean JACK will attempt to eat the winning name on Wednesday night, the 25th of March!

I read this awhile ago on my bloglines and was just amazed but did not enter the contest. Today I am back to enter the contest. The Reserve sounds very interesting and to say that I am still amazed that she made you remove the pictures in the first place. What is the world coming to. Thanks for the contest and the amazing story.
